In 2021, the Apalachee Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution had over 700 wreaths sponsored and close to 80 volunteers placed the wreaths on the graves of veterans.

National Wreaths Across America Day honors late veterans with thousands of wreath-laying ceremonies across the country.

“We strongly support this mission and would like to request your support to recognize our American heroes,” said Apalachee Chapter, NSDAR Second Vice Regent Gerri Wolfe. “I encourage you to sponsor wreaths so we can meet our goal of placing a wreath on every veteran headstone in Oconee and Athens-Clarke counties.”

Local businesses like Bensons and Caterpillar have already sponsored 100 wreaths each and will have volunteers to lay the wreaths.

There are two ways to sponsor wreaths:

First, visit wreathsacrossamerica.org and scroll to the “How We Teach” section. There, click on “Find a Group” and type in “Apalachee Chapter.” The name of the Bogart DAR chapter should appear.

The second way is to mail a check to Apalachee Chapter, NSDAR, P.O. Box 48851, Athens, Ga. 30604. Make sure to include your name, address, phone, email address and number of wreaths sponsored.

The deadline to sponsor wreaths for 2022 is Nov. 29, which is also Giving Tuesday.

A ceremony is scheduled Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11:30 at Mars Hill Baptist Church. Following the program, wreaths will be laid on headstones across Oconee and Athens-Clarke counties.
