(Greensboro, Ga. --- December 01, 2019) Start off your holiday season by making memories in Downtown Greensboro at the annual Lighting of the Tree event on December 6, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. Gather on the Courthouse Lawn for performances from local organizations and to help Mayor Wright light the big town tree.
Santa himself called Jimmy Britt and will be arriving to town in a beautiful 2020 truck Friday December 6th to light the big tree for the holiday season.
Bring the entire family for an evening of music from local organizations, food from local restaurants, holiday fun, shopping, and of course, a visit with Santa in Downtown Greensboro. Santa will be set up in his workshop to visit with everyone. Parents get your cameras ready! Santa will be available in the Court Street building, ready to snap that perfect holiday picture throughout the evening.
Come for dinner at the event! Find a warm, cozy booth at one of Greensboro’s downtown restaurants; or visit the Ripe Thing Market Christmas Café under the big tent on North Main Street for homemade soups, sandwiches or homemade hot cocoa. Stay warm with a cup of hot apple cider prepared by the Knights of Columbus.
Glitter tattoos, fun crafts and cookie decorations are few of the many things happening for the kids during the Lighting of the Tree event. Be sure to visit the craft vendors and pick up a holiday gift for a loved one. Items this year include gingerbread houses, dish towels, seashell decorations, jewelry and of course baked goodies!
Christmas carolers and community churches will be singing favorite holiday tunes on stage in front of the Court House lawn. Beginning at 6 p.m., local church choirs, dance groups and singers will delight the audience with their many talents. Be sure that you are near the main stage around 7 p.m. for the lighting of the big tree!
Thank you to Tom and April Riddle, along with daughter Ella, of Greene County for donating the tree in memory of Friedrich (Fritz) and Helen von Richthofen, previous owners of the property who planted the tree. New Urban Forestry, an Athens-based tree service company, and City workers delivered the tree to the Court House lawn on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, just in time for it to be decorated for the Lighting of the Tree event. The tree lighting celebration will take place on the Courthouse lawn from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 6.
Shopping takes center stage this holiday season, as Greensboro’s friendly merchants are ready to help you find gifts for everyone on your list this season – without the hectic traffic and crowds of the typical shopping mall. Make Greensboro your shopping destination this holiday season.
