Oconee County High School graduate Garris Duke celebrated the end of his senior year  with a stampede of cardboard cut-out horses based on characters from “My Little Pony.”

It was an inside joke seven years in the making between Duke and retired Colham Ferry Elementary School teacher Bill Nelson.

Each of the steeds represents something special to Duke: a green one for his high school graduation, a red one for his acceptance into the University of Georgia and a white one to celebrate his status as a senior baseball player. The sparkly purple one was the original.

“It’s always a fun surprise,” Duke said. “When one of us forgets [about the joke], the other thinks of something to do.”
