During her three years at North Oconee High School, Teacher of the Year Jade Paustian has taught algebra one and advanced mathematical decision-making classes. She currently teaches algebra one at NOHS to mostly ninth graders. She is also the head girls’ lacrosse coach at the high school.

“I had really great math teachers [in high school] who really inspired me to keep learning about math and eventually make a career out of it,” Paustian said.

She enjoys showing students how the puzzles involved in math are relatable to more concrete life situations.

“It’s getting them over that mental block that they can do it,” she said. “They just need someone to believe in them.”
