High school students from across Georgia will attend the state YMCA’s two annual legislative Youth Assembly conferences during November, including students from Oconee County.

North Oconee High School students Evan Frey and Haseeb Khalid will be among the attendees as conference leaders.

Khalid is governor for the first November conference, while Frey is its lieutenant governor, Students at the conference will have a hands-on practice legislative experience drafting, presenting and reforming or denying bills.

All the while, they will be doing so inside some of the same rooms that Georgia’s General Assembly uses to work through bills.
