Greenbriar Creek Christmas Tree Farm is seeking sponsors for trees that will be sent to military families in early December as part of the national Trees for Troops program. The sponsorship is $40 per tree, and donors should address checks to Greenbriar Creek Christmas Tree Farm. The deadline is Nov. 30.

The Lee family will put a tag on the tree if donors wish to write a message. FedEx will pick up the trees Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. Those who wish to volunteer can contact Delores and Walter Lee at (706) 769-4231 or (706) 340-2603. All sponsorships will receive a tax deductible receipt for a 501c charitable contribution. For more information about the program, visit treesfortroops.org.

“We’ve had very good participation from the community,” said co-owner Delores Lee. “We wanted this to be not so much about our farm but our appreciation to the community for their support.” 

Her husband, Walter, was in active duty from 1965-1967 and was in the reserves for an eight-year commitment.

Ornament sale helps kids  

Families can purchase an embroidered ornament from the Oconee Area Resource Council for a suggested donation of $20. These ornaments will benefit the nonprofit, which helps feed children throughout the year in addition to its mentor program. To place an order, email jennifer@oconeeconnection.org. Inrelated news, The Chamber of Commerce has partnered with OARC to put up a giving tree in its offices. Donors can sign up to give a special gift to a family in need. 

Support foster care

 Enter Christmas Parade

The Watkinsville Christmas Parade is Sunday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m., and the deadline to enter is Friday.

Registration is free and can be found at cityofwatkinsville.com on the community tab. Entries should showcase a favorite Christmas or holiday movie to go along with the theme “Now showing…”

Entries will be judged in the following categories: Best Use of Theme Adult, Best Use of Theme Youth, Most Artistic Adult Entry, Most Artistic Youth Entry, Best Tractor and Best Antique Vehicle.

 Shop Christmas gifts

The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation will hold its annual Holiday Market Dec. 4 from 5-8 p.m. and Dec. 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Artist Shoppe inside the 1902 Building will be Dec. 4-19 during normal OCAF hours.
