If at first you don’t succeed, try again. That’s the thinking of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners, whose five members voted Tuesday to put a 1 percent Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax back on the ballot after it failed to pass last year.

Although a TSPLOST will raise sales tax from 7 to 8 percent, the BOC has pledged to decrease the county property tax by one mill. If voters approve the referendum, the tax will go into effect April 1, 2023.

The General Election is Nov. 8, and the last day to register is Tuesday, Oct. 11.
