Mayor Bob Smith eschewed a public swearing-in for his second oath of office.

At Smith’s first Watkinsville City Council meeting last Wednesday, City Attorney Joe Reitman said the document Smith signed before the meeting would suffice.

Smith made a last minute edit to the oath, changing the word “affirm” to “reaffirm.”

Additionally, the oath was not dated so that it would not invalidate the oath Smith took Jan. 1 in front Superior Court Judge Eric Norris.

Although the agenda had a line about discussing the procedure for future oaths of office, the City Council chose to table that item to an undetermined date.
