Oconee County resident John Gentry has dedicated 28 years to the Army and Army National Guard.Now, the former parks and recreation director will be the commander of the 78th Troop Command, which is based in Marietta. 

As of this month, Gentry is a brigadier general in the Army National Guard, making him one of only three brigadier generals in Georgia's National Guard.
