For three decades, Carol Reeves of Watkinsville has counted it a blessing to direct some of the most gifted young singers in the state.

The Georgia Children’s Chorus recently named Reeves its fulltime artistic director, a title she has held on a part-time basis previously.

“I have the best job in the world,” said Reeves. “These children want to sing.”

“We could not be more thrilled that Carol has chosen to go full-time with the chorus,” said Barb Wright, president of the GCC Board of Directors. “Her talent, experience and dedication to serving children and young adults first are just some of the qualities that make her the perfect fit for this role. In addition, she is committed to ensuring the quality of choral literature the children and young adults are learning is at the highest level.”

Reeves has spent her career teaching and coaching musicians. After earning a bachelor’s degree at Auburn and a master’s degree at the University of Georgia, she has taught in public schools, at First Methodist Church in Athens and at Georgia Children’s Chorus.

If there is a downside to the new opportunity, it is that Reeves has resigned her position as children’s choir director at her church.
