The Costa family has done business for over 100 years, and 31 of those years have been in Watkinsville.

Now, Anthony Costa will be taking over the family business, Costa’s Cleaners and Laundry, from his father, John Costa, in January 2020.

The business includes three locations: the Barnett Shoals Road location, as well as the drop-off/pickup locations along Stonebridge Parkway in Watkinsville and U.S. 78 in Statham.

Currently, the downtown Watkinsville Costa’s has five full-time workers and two part-time workers, including Anthony, while the other locations have five part-time employees in total.

John Costa bought out Hunter’s Cleaners in 1988 and rebranded it Costa’s Cleaners and Laundry. As his son, Anthony is no stranger to the cleaners’ business operations.

“I have been involved with it off and on since I was a boy,” Anthony said.

His other family members, including his mother, Sandy, uncle Robert, wife Jessica and daughter Isabella, have also been involved with the business. When it was founded, Anthony’s grandfather, Jimmy Costa, helped out the first eight years.
