Saturday Nov. 19 was the first day that mail carriers spent more time on the road even before delivering mail to the first home on their route.

On Nov. 19, mail carriers for all parts of Oconee County except those serving Bogart were required to pick up mail from the processing center at 575 Olympic Drive in Athens, which is about 10 miles from downtown Watkinsville.

Before this change, mail was sorted and given to carriers serving Watkinsville, Bishop, Farmington and North High Shoals at the Watkinsville Post Office.

At this time, Bogart mail carriers do not have to pick up mail at the 575 Olympic Drive post office.

The Watkinsville Post Office will remain as a place for PO Box users and other customer services, such as shipping packages, picking up packages, dropping off mail and purchasing items from the gift shop.

However, several clerks at the Watkinsville Post Office were given the option to transfer or stay but with limited customer interaction.
