Following the hiring of a city administrator and a hiring freeze of police officers, the Watkinsville City Council is considering budgeting for a part-time person assigned to managing the city’s Facebook page, keeping the website current and engaging with local businesses.

City Administrator Sharyn Dickerson suggested making use of the University of Georgia’s Department of Public Administration, which has already reached out for internship opportunities.

Councilwoman Christine Tucker said she believed managing social media required some additional staffing, albeit at around 10 hours per week.

“Bad social media is worse than no social media,” said Tucker. “We need a very deliberate social media plan.”
