The Georgia Department of Transportation is moving forward with a plan to replace the bridge linking Oconee County to Walton County at the original bridge site, according to a recent GDOT report.

Built in 1958, the State Route 186 bridge crosses over the Apalachee River in North High Shoals. The structure is in need of replacement due to its poor conditions.

The report explained that the GDOT's plan will involve a detour around the bridge site.
