Mike and Nona Thornton are seeking a rezone for property at 1060 Hog Mountain Road next to Fire Station Express Car Wash for a drive-through restaurant.

The 0.59-acre parcel has been zoned Agricultural Residential District since the original adoption of the county zoning map in 1968.

The Thorntons would like it changed to Highway Business District. In addition to a rezone, they are asking for a special exemption variance to reduce the required 50-foot incompatible use buffer.

On Monday, the Oconee County Planning Commission recommended denial of the rezone. The Board of Commissioners will vote on the rezone and special-use request at its Aug. 3 meeting.
