Four decades after her father, CB “Beadie” Guest, served as Bogart’s mayor, Janet Jones will become the town’s mayor next week.
“My family has served this country from the Revolutionary War to [Operation] Desert Storm,” Jones said.
Jones will be Bogart’s fourth female mayor in a steady stream of female mayors, after Robin Hogue in the 1990s, Jan Thurman and Jones’ immediate predecessor, Terri Glenn.
“I guess the men haven’t qualified or wanted to qualify, and they must be happy with the leadership we’ve had,” Jones said.
Though Jones and her family have been in the Bogart area for 50 years, Jones was born in Athens. She graduated from Athens High School and enrolled at the University of Georgia.
Jones ended up pursuing a career within the medical, dental and surgical fields.
“I think part of my makeup is to help people,” said Jones. “I have the need to be a caretaker.”
