Update: In the Oct. 8 article about the Fall Festival, it was stated that the Eagle Tavern’s interior would be open for limited tours during the festival. The tavern’s interior will no longer be open for tours during the event, as the county closed the tavern a few weeks ago in anticipation of renovations and structural repairs supported by SPLOST funds. There will be activities on the tavern’s lawn the day of the festival.
Autumn will come alive in downtown Watkinsville for the 46th Oconee Chamber of Commerce Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The chamber is encouraging visitors and volunteers to wear masks and social distance. During festival hours, entrances and exits will be marked to help direct the flow of foot traffic. There will also be sanitizing stations available. Pets are not allowed on Rocket Field.
Approximately 200 booths will have everything from accessories, art and food. All six of the festival’s sponsors will have booths, including a booth selling festival T-shirts made by Big Frog.
While there will not be a KidZone this year, children will still have plenty of other activities. Little Shepsters will create custom superhero capes for kids, while Brightstone Productions will offer pictures with favorite Disney princesses.
Children can also craft their own sand art or martial arts breaking board or get glitter tattoos at the festival. Oconee Music will be at the festival with several musical instruments for the kids to try, and Brella Studio will have a pop-up art studio where kids can paint, glitter, draw or glue to their hearts’ content.
Agribusiness will also still be represented at the event, although there will not be a live animal display at their area. They will have a booth next to Rocket Hall. Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission will have a booth next to that exhibit as well.
The festival’s parking options are as follows:
- Ashford Memorial Methodist Church at 1 N. Main St., free parking but donations are accepted
- Bethel Baptist Church at 59 N. Main St., free parking but donations are accepted
- Oconee County Courthouse at 23 N. Main St., free parking behind the building. Handicap parking is available at the courthouse and next to Watkinsville First Christian Church at 4 N. Main St.
