Costco, a national wholesale club, has updated its new-locations tab of its website to include a forthcoming store in Oconee. On the website, the location is listed as “Athens” with an opening timeframe of October 2022.

The store may have an Athens postal address, but it’s 155,146-square-foot store will be at Epps Bridge Centre II perpendicular to Hobby Lobby in Oconee County. The original tentative timeframe for an opening was summer of 2022.

“With concrete shortages in Georgia right now and supply chain issues, things are just taking longer than usual—for everyone,” Oconee County Chamber of Commerce President Courtney Bernardi stated in an email.

“With that said,” she added, “progress is being made, the traffic signal is going up, the parking lot and landscape medians are in (there will be a final walk through on those at the end of building construction) and the site has been transferred to Costco to construct the building.”
