The Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted to spend $1.25 million in SPLOST dollars to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Mars Hill and Malcom Bridge roads. Construction will begin this summer.
The developer of the forthcoming shopping center, The Village at Malcom Bridge, will be responsible for the roundabout at the parent entrance of Malcom Bridge Middle School, while the county will re-bid the proposed roundabout at the bus entrance later in the fall.
Once engineering is complete and the bid is awarded, the BOC will forward plans to the Board of Education for review, said BOC Chairman John Daniell.
“The design could change during the bid process based on additional cost-saving measures from bidders,” he added.
The Mars Hill and Malcom Bridge roundabout bid was awarded Tuesday to E.R. Snell Contractor Inc. The vote was unanimous.
