Chandler White pitched four scoreless innings on Monday night to help the Titans defeat Marist.

North Oconee High School senior Chandler White is known as a smart and analytical person. That aided in his struggles as a baseball player in his junior season.

White found himself thinking about things and analyzing what to throw and still getting his pitches hit in his six starts last season.

Prior to this season White sat down with Titans’ pitching coach Thomas Dimitroff and received a message of simplification and was told to pitch angry.

“Chandler is a very smart kid and I think that sometimes that worked against him on the mound last year,” NOHS head coach Jay Lasley said. “He would overthink. He’s put in a ton of hardwork this offseason and throughout his whole career, he’s been a hard worker. This year, one of out things for him was to stop thinking and just throw the baseball.”

So far, White has thrown the baseball past opponents and helped the Titans to a 6-1 start to the 2020 season.

Four starts into the season White has pitched 15 innings, boasts a 3-1 record an earned run average of 0.93 and 26 strikeouts and seven walks. Opponents are batting .175 against White.

All of the success has come from the edge White has stepped on the mound with so far in 2020. White has adopted the ‘I’m better than you’ attitude and so far it’s worked.

“This year I have an attitude that no matter who it is or no matter what team it is I’m going to go out there and I can beat them,” White said. “I think that’s changed how I pitch. I pitch with a lot of fire and edge. I think that’s really helped me come up big in big moments and help my team win.”

On Monday night White was put on the mound in a big early season matchup with Marist and he responded with four innings, five strikeouts and a win as the Titans rolled the second-ranked team in the Georgia Dugout Preview poll.

White’s performance has made him this week’s Oconee Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation/Oconee Enterprise Athlete of the Week.
