The Wolverines’ offense could not be stopped last Friday.
Prince Avenue Christian School’s football team played at Providence Christian Academy. The Wolverines returned to Bogart following a 69-14 thrashing of the Storm.
They found their groove just one minute into the game.
Quarterback Aaron Philo connected with wide receiver Josh Britt on a 49-yard touchdown throw. That put Prince Avenue Christian ahead 7-0 with 11 minutes to go in the first quarter.
Mac Bradley dashed into the end zone on a 77-yard carry at the 7:51 mark of the first quarter, improving the lead to 14-0.
The Wolverines had another drive later that ended on a Philo touchdown throw. He found Bailey Stockton on a 12-yard completion, making it a 21-0 game.
With 11:10 remaining in the second quarter, Stockton caught another touchdown throw, this time from 1 yard out. That pushed Prince Avenue Christian ahead 28-0.
Britt caught a 56-yard touchdown pass about four minutes later.
Peyton Talmadge ran in from 24 yards out at the 5:30 mark of the second quarter.
Elijah Dewitt scored on a 1-yard run just 1:32 before halftime.
That onslaught of scoring gave the Wolverines a 49-0 lead at the half. The deficit was big enough to force a running clock during the second half.
Providence Christian struck first during the third quarter. The Storm scored on a 24-yard touchdown throw from Conner Jones to Devin Long.
Providence Christian converted a 2-point try, cutting the lead to 49-8 with 10:10 left in the third quarter.
Less than three minutes later, Bradley scored on a 54-yard run, improving the lead to 56-8.
Will Frost – whose official position is on the offensive line – even got in on the scoring action. Frost ran in from 1 yard out to score with 11:05 to go in the contest. That gave Prince Avenue Christian a 62-8 lead.
Providence Christian got on the board with 7:38 to go thanks to a 60-yard touchdown run by Dre Booker. The Storm’s ensuing 2-point conversion attempt failed thanks to an interception by Brantley Parramore.
Prince Avenue Christian got its final score 3:10 before the end of the game. Will Goff scored on a 12-yard carry, giving the Wolverines their decisive 69-14 advantage.
Philo went 14-for-21 during the game with 291 yards passing and four touchdowns. He averaged 20.8 yards per completion.
Bradley led the rushing effort with 140 yards on just four carries.
Dewitt (37 yards), Goff (31), Talmadge (24), Philo (13), Titus Watkins (13) and Frost (1) combined with Bradley to lead a 259-yard effort on the ground.
Britt cracked 100 yards receiving, finishing with 105 yards on two catches. That performance meant that Prince Avenue Christian opened the 2021 season with three-straight games where at least one receiver notched more than 100 yards.
Stockton had 118 yards receiving in the season opener. In game two, Ethan Christian (259 yards) and Stockton (131) both surpassed 100 yards receiving.
The Wolverines hope to keep their offense rolling this Friday during their first Region 8-A-Private competition.
Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School is set for a trip to Bogart this week after starting the season 2-0. That will be Prince Avenue Christian’s first game in its defense of last year’s region title.
