Jaleel Laguins Signing

Oconee County’s Jaleel Laguins picked the University of Georgia hat during a National Signing Day ceremony last week, reaffirming his previous decision to play for the Bulldogs.

It was 45 minutes before Jaleel Laguins was set to make his decision for a second time.

The Oconee County High School linebacker — who had committed to the University of Georgia in August of 2015 — sat alone, deep in his thoughts while staring at the three hats before him.

On the left was the University of Florida, the middle was the University of Alabama and on the right was the Bulldogs.

“I bought these two at Lids,” Laguins said, pointing to the Georgia and Alabama hats. “This other one, shoot, I don’t even know where I got it from.”

Maybe that was the first sign of where Laguins’ heart really stood.

After everyone arrived at the Oconee County field house for a short ceremony, fellow classmates of Laguins began offering their opinions of where they thought he should go, with a heavy bias leaning toward the hometown Bulldogs.

After thanking as many people as he could, Laguins uttered LeBron James’ “taking my talents to” speech before reaching over the Gators hat.
