Colham Ferry students craft a Watkinsville gingerbread village

Colham Ferry Elementary fifth grade teacher Leigh Anne Shore and CFES fifth grade and gifted teacher Bekah McGee may not have a snowy Thomas Kinkade painting hanging in the classroom around the holidays, but they have something better.

For five years, local elementary school children have built gingerbread versions of Watkinsville businesses and landmarks. Each special creation is handcrafted with creative embellishments and delicious candies, culminating in a Christmas village that’s appealing to the eyes and quite appetizing.

The imaginative confectionery can be found at Watkinsville City Hall. In fact, they’ll get a special shout out from the mayor at Wednesday’s City Council meeting, along with an awards presentation to winners of the Watkinsville Christmas Parade. Special recognition will also be given to Mellony Adkins, the volunteer coordinator for the Parade and Tree Lighting, and to Sew Sew Studios for the 2023 Commemorative Ornament.
