Late Bogart police officer remembered

Today marks 46 years since 39- year-old Bogart Police Department Officer Herbert Daniel Johnson was killed in the line of duty in the town he had always called home.

His legacy as a man who knew everyone, took pride in his job and cared for his community is captured in local newspaper archives and honored through his memorial at the Bogart Historical Museum.

Johnson was killed at 11 p.m. on Dec. 7, 1977, as he directed traffic behind his patrol car while a disabled car was being towed.
