The Oconee County High School football team’s schedule for the 2024 season was revealed last Friday on social media.
2024 will be the first season of a new alignment, as GHSA announced the placement of schools on Nov. 10 of last year. The Warriors remain in region 8-3A, but the teams joining them in their region are largely different.
For Oconee County, the schedule opens with the 11th iteration of the Hog Mountain Bowl, as the Warriors will host North Oconee High School on August 16. OCHS will then travel to face Clarke Central (Aug. 23) and Morgan County (Aug. 30) on the road before hosting Loganville on Sept. 6 and rounding out its non-region schedule on the road against Stephens County on Sept. 13.
The Warriors will face an almost entirely new group of region competitors next season. Monroe Area (Oct. 25) is the only region game on the 2024 slate that was a region game for OCHS in 2023. The Warriors will face Jefferson, who they played last season, on Nov. 1, but that was not a region matchup in 2023.
The three new region foes OCHS will face in 2024 are Cherokee Bluff (Sept. 27), East Hall (Oct. 4) and West Hall (Oct. 11.) East Hall and Monroe Area will be road games, while Cherokee Bluff, West Hall and Jefferson will be home games for Oconee County.
In all, Oconee County played five of the opponents on the 2024 schedule last season, going 1-4 in those matchups. The Warriors had an up-and-down season in 2023 but finished strong, winning three of their last five regular season games as well as a first round matchup with Douglass.
2024 will be head coach Ben Hall’s third season leading the Warriors. Key returning players include quarterback Titus Watkins, running back Caiden Wood, linebacker Zach Weeks, wide receiver James Holland and defensive lineman Judah Birch.
